Sally Kwong

Sally discovered her passion for music when she was in kindergarten, she was fascinated with the piano that her teacher played and was always trying to get close enough to try it herself. At age six she got her own piano at home, and since then it has been difficult to get her off it, by the age of 13 she had passed her grade 8 in piano.

The effort she puts into piano practices shows her enthusiasm, “I may not be playing the right notes, but I play with all my will.”

Sally’s piano playing didn’t become inspired until she came to study abroad in the UK in 2004. Her first music teacher in the UK, in Surrey gave her a lot of opportunities to accompany groups of instruments and voices, playing in school assemblies, concerts and enter competitions. At times she felt like she was under too much pressure, but the buzz she got from the audience at the shows constantly swept all the doubt away.

Once she became accustomed to facing audiences, her teacher recommended that she test her skills at the Reigate Music Festival. Winning not only a merit star and a merit in the “Age 15″ and “Grade 8 piano” sections, she also won the 1st prize for the Composing and Performing section.

She hopes to continue study music at university and is looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of music. Sally is currently working hard on her A-levels whilst squeezing in enough time to take her first exam - at grade 6 - in singing and learn how to play the violin.
