Bocs News

Bocs is a co-operative project which grew out of Oriel Dafydd Hardy and is now in the process of securing alternative premises which would serve as a gallery, drop-in information and studios complex in Caernarfon town centre. The aim is to establish a hub for the growth of excellence in the arts. At present we are looking at providing the following facilities:

· An arts retail area where artists can sell their work, and people can buy arts supplies;
· Providing workspace, studio and gallery space for those involved in the arts;
· Meeting rooms for local community groups, businesses and organisations;
· One stop shop where information can be provided on the arts sector;
· Arranging events and performances;
· Sessions aimed at the education sector.

This arts space would be unique as it would be run by young graduates, whilst at the same time focusing on inspiring people, especially those from deprived areas, to become part of this community and see art as a viable career.

Bocs is celebrating!

Bocs is proud to annouce that work by two of our members, Gethin Wavell and Morgan Griffith, along with work by Bocs Board member, Gareth Griffith, have been selected for the National Eisteddfod of Wales Open Exhibition at Wrexham!

Incidently, Gareth is Morgan’s father, and this is the first time in the Eisteddfod’s long history that a father and son have ever been chosen to exhibit at the same time.

Also New Bocs member, Rebecca F. Hardy, opened her first solo , exhibition, “Serch”, at the Arthaus61 in Bangor last night. An exhibition of expressive, primitive, surreal and at times auto-biographical artworks. www.rfhardy.blogspot.com

So all in all Bocs has quite a lot to celebrate this weekend! Congratulations to everyone, well done!

Gethin Wavell “Bad Wart False Teeth 2″ (Adventures in the shed)

Exhibition by Gethin Wavell at Oriel Dafydd Hardy, Caernarfon. Private View : Wednesday 3rd November (7-9pm)
Then open to public 4th - 26th November 2010

Opening hours: Monday - Friday 10 am – 4pm (Saturday 10am -1pm)

I graduated from Cardiff UWIC in 2007, where I studied fine art. The work that’s on show is work that I have produced in the last two years. I enjoy looking at a wide range of artists, from Guston to Goya. I also have a fondness for literature and films. I see my work as the final image of encounters and reactions that I’ve had, or am ever going to have. Therefore, I rely heavily on my imagination, and memories. With these tools I’m able to construct a piece of work that is highly personel and corresponds to what I surround myself with.

Looking At Faces by Ioan Griffith + Morgan Griffith

Recent Work by Ioan Griffith + Morgan Griffith
4 - 30 September 2010

Looking At Faces is an exhibition of recent work by brothers Morgan and Ioan Griffith.

With both artists working on a similar theme with contrasting approaches, Morgan’s work is painting and collage based, whilst Ioan has produced a slide projected installation using a penry facial identification kit.

Humour is a strong element in both artists work.

“Since every human contact in every area in our existence begins with a meeting of faces, an understanding of them is, or should be, everybody’s business.” Jacques Penry
