“THE EYE, THE HAND, THE HEART”

OCTOBER 10 - 31st 2009

Private View : 9th October 7-9pm

Artist’s statement:

“I feel inseparable from the paintings done by the old masters; I am in a constant conversation with them. I look at everything and I want to respond to everything, from the Baroque to contemporary art from Japan, form Poussin’s Compositions to Jeff Koons kitsch sculptures. It is essential for me to know what is happening around me as it helps me form my context and helps my work develop as I do There is this constant Battle that takes place when I paint questions that arise regarding colour juxtaposition, composition and the possibility of excess marks in corners forming distractions. I want this in my paintings as the result is a constant engagement between colour, form and composition that needs to be tamed and controlled into working and forming the overall painting.
I don’t intend for the observer to come to a conclusion in my paintings, I want my paintings to move and shift with time, but exist in there own time and space were the viewer enters and feels comfortable in observing without the need to come to a conclusion.”

bocs is officially open!

5 December 2008

Wow, we’ve finally launched, and the christmas bocs nadolig private view went well, if a little bit hectic at the last moment….

We had a really strong show with work by some really interesting artists, all chosen by members of bocs.

Exhibiting Artists

We even had a couple of pieces produced by bocs members and of course, we also had our bocs boxes. This is the Super Secret Souvenir I mentioned earlier, over 100 miniature bocs boxes that have been customised by one of our members, our Christmas gift for you to take away.

Bedwyr Williams was kind enough to open the exhibition for us with an inspiring speech, whilst Ioan Thomas launched our bocs co-operative with a pop of the champagne cork.

You are all cordially invited…

29 November 2008

… to the launch of bocs, and of course, for our Christmas bash/exhibition.

Feel free to print out one of these invites and bring them along to our private view. (Right-click the image and click “Save target as”.) Although you’d probably still get in even if you didn’t have one.

Sevan’s work goes on bocs

27 November 2008

One of our members, Sevan Garon Nigogosian has uploaded a couple of pictures of his web on his bocs profile. Sevan’s work is driven by gesture and expressive mark-making, inspired by Frank Auerbach and Anthony Tapies.

Some pretty interesting stuff, so clicky here to pop along and have a look.

If you’re interested in seeing more from Sevan, he’s got his own site filled with loads of photos.
