Sally and Rhys’ Kodak Moments

24 February 2009

After our constructive weekly meeting (in the pub) our very own David Bailey, Huw Erddyn stormed the bastille of the Jones family home to create the bocs’ very own blow-up featuring the photogenic Sally and the not-so-photogenic Rhys. To hide his hideous appearance, Rhys decided to dazzle the audience with his barrage of electronic junk and miscellaneous instruments.

bocs is officially open!

5 December 2008

Wow, we’ve finally launched, and the christmas bocs nadolig private view went well, if a little bit hectic at the last moment….

We had a really strong show with work by some really interesting artists, all chosen by members of bocs.

Exhibiting Artists

We even had a couple of pieces produced by bocs members and of course, we also had our bocs boxes. This is the Super Secret Souvenir I mentioned earlier, over 100 miniature bocs boxes that have been customised by one of our members, our Christmas gift for you to take away.

Bedwyr Williams was kind enough to open the exhibition for us with an inspiring speech, whilst Ioan Thomas launched our bocs co-operative with a pop of the champagne cork.

Sally plays Debussy

2 December 2008

Our youngest member, Sally Kwong has just uploaded a video of her piano playing to her profile.

Here she is, playing a piece written by Debussy, La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin (The Girl with the Flaxen Hair).

To find out more about what else Sally’s been up to, please read her profile.

You are all cordially invited…

29 November 2008

… to the launch of bocs, and of course, for our Christmas bash/exhibition.

Feel free to print out one of these invites and bring them along to our private view. (Right-click the image and click “Save target as”.) Although you’d probably still get in even if you didn’t have one.

bocs choice - Poked Studio

28 November 2008

Poked Studio is Jonathan Ball, an illustrator and graphic designer living in South Wales, “inspired by lo-brow art forms such as cartoons, retro video games, urban art and cute monsters, creating fantasy worlds and characters.”

When I first discovered Poked Studio’s work they instantly made me smile, and in the case of his “murdered fruit” they made me laugh out loud. His cute, quirky and sometimes macabre illustrations appealed to my visual senses as well as my sense of fun and I began to notice his work in all sorts of places. Poked Studio has an impressive list of clients including the BBC, MTV, Sony Playstation and the National Library of Wales. His work also features as the desktop wallpaper on another bocs member’s computer.

Discovering that he was Welsh and a native of Cardiff was a pleasant surprise. I believe that Poked Studio is a prime example of high-calibre Welsh art with true international appeal.

Poked Studio is Sally Kwong’s choice for the christmas bocs nadolig exhibition.
