On behalf of Oriel Dafydd Hardy would like invite you to attend the private view of christmas bocs nadolig, a special members’ choice exhibition to celebrate the launch of our young co-operative, bocs, on Friday 5th December.
bocs is a supportive network of young artists encompassing visual arts, music and performance. Their objective is to establish a focal point to act as a catalyst for excellence in young contemporary art.
To give you some background -In 2006 Dafydd Hardy, along with his co-director Richard Thomas, decided to turn the basement of their offices on the castle square into an arts space to showcase young artists, to counteract the drain of young art graduates from the area by providing a nucleus for exhibition and exchange of ideas
This new young cooperative represents the core of Oriel Dafydd Hardy past exhibitors/or associates – they are the nascent group of a future art movement in Gwynedd.
bocs will be unique in that it will be formed and driven by young artists - providing its members with a stake in their own careers, and a feeling of having an effective influence on the growth and direction of their town and its surrounding areas.
As their first activity bocs members have chosen artists they admired, or have interest in seeing on the walls of Oriel Dafydd Hardy. This exhibition will be opened by the artist, Bedwyr Williams, and, bocs itself will be launched by Chairman of Gwynedd Council Councillor Evie Morgan Jones.
We are opening the doors from 6pm to 9pm and would anticipate the opening speeches to start around 6.30-6.45pm. I do hope you are able to come!
