Community Arts Co-ordinator at Tŷ Glyndŵr

Introduction
Bocs, a young artists’ co-operative are opening a new arts centre in Tŷ Glyndŵr and require a community arts co-ordinator with exceptional organisational skills, creative flair and some experience of working in a professional arts environment with the community to lead on the administration and day to day management of the volunteer team, community activities and to strengthen our partnership with other community and/or arts organisations.
The Community Arts Co-ordinator will be self-employed as a freelance contractor. This freelance contract is conditional, pending confirmation of the available funding.
Background
Bocs is a young artists’ co-operative who will spearhead ground-breaking fine art exhibitions, performance events and provide a hub for the growth of excellence in the arts.
In collaboration with other communities, voluntary groups, local schools, art venues and initiatives, the group aims to maximise the use of the art space known as “Tŷ Glyndŵr” and enliven a prime tourist location.
Bocs’ mission is to:
- Establish a focal point for excellence in young contemporary art.
- Provide a space to exhibit, perform and work.
- Provide a space to exchange ideas and share skills.
- Engage with the local community
Partnership and collaboration with other organisations was an important factor in the success of our past projects. Continued development of key partnerships also be vital to future initiatives and Bocs anticipates working on a number of community projects, workshops and classes.
Candidate Requirements
He or she will be confident, diplomatic, reliable and well organized. Other essential attributes include the ability to:
- Manage stress and responsibility
- Take initiative and work with a pro-active approach
- Communicate confidently with excellent verbal and written skills
- Work with excellent IT skills, including Excel and Photoshop
- Work as part of a team
Other desirable qualities include:
- Arts degree or equivalent
- Knowledge of and enthusiasm for contemporary art
- Experience of gallery, museum exhibition and / or theatre work as an artist or staff member
- Voluntary work experience
- Familiarity with marketing and PR
- Valid UK driving license
- Multiple-language skills
Working in an environment where initiative and creativity are valued, the successful candidate will enjoy the freedom of self-direction and the support of the Bocs committee and board of advisors. The contractor will be required to be flexible as the work frequently takes place over weekends, evenings and holidays.
Length of Contract and Working Conditions
The Community Arts Co-ordinator will be contracted to work for a fixed term of 49 weeks over one calendar year with interim reviews at 1, 3, 6 and 9 months and a final review at 11 months. The company reserves the right to terminate the contract based on the performance reviews. In such cases one month’s notice may be given.
Fee
The fee is based on Voluntary Arts Wales’ pay scale for a band 4 administrator, £17,500 to £19,000 pa. We will be paying a fee of £8,790.60 for 20 hours per week for a period of 49 weeks. This is equivalent to £8.97 per hour.
The contractor is expected to invoice the company for their work at the end of the month, they may choose to use the template supplied.

- The short listed candidates will be notified by telephone or e-mail by the end of the day on the 3rd of February 2012. The candidates will receive an information pack with further details about the project. Candidates will be required to prepare a short 5 minute presentation and a brief proposal for their interview.
- The recruitment selection panel will conduct interviews with the chosen candidates in the week beginning the 13th of February 2012 in Caernarfon.
- Candidates are further scored for their suitability and the preferred individual will be contacted and offered the conditional post.
