bocs is officially open!

5 December 2008

Wow, we’ve finally launched, and the christmas bocs nadolig private view went well, if a little bit hectic at the last moment….

We had a really strong show with work by some really interesting artists, all chosen by members of bocs.

Exhibiting Artists

We even had a couple of pieces produced by bocs members and of course, we also had our bocs boxes. This is the Super Secret Souvenir I mentioned earlier, over 100 miniature bocs boxes that have been customised by one of our members, our Christmas gift for you to take away.

Bedwyr Williams was kind enough to open the exhibition for us with an inspiring speech, whilst Ioan Thomas launched our bocs co-operative with a pop of the champagne cork.

Artwork wish list

4 December 2008

Article in the Caernarfon and Denbighshire Herald on December 4, 2008 about bocs and the christmas bocs nadolig exhibition :

YOUNG artists received their perfect Christmas present this week.

For the latest exhibition at Oriel Dafydd Hardy, in Caernarfon, members of bocs, a co-operative of young local artists, drew up a wish list of art they would like to see on display.

The work ranges from artists they have studied alongside, lecturers who taught them, people whose work they have admired or even read about.

The collection opens on Saturday and will run until January 9.

Meirion Alan Ginsberg’s work goes on bocs

1 December 2008

One of our members, Meirion Ginsberg has uploaded a couple of pictures of his work on his bocs profile. Meirion’s work is largely autobiographical and injected with humour, borderline figurative and abstract it is influenced by a huge range of painters from Willem DeKooning to Rembrandt.

Some pretty interesting stuff, so click here to pop along and have a look.

If you’re interested in seeing more from Meirion, he’s got his own site filled with loads of images.

art pickup

26 November 2008

Well, just got back from the gruelling trek down to Cardiff to pick up some pieces for the christmas bocs nadolig exhibition from two of the bocs choice artists, Robert Pepperell and Poked Studio. Surely there should be an easier way to get from North Wales down to South Wales?

Anyway, whilst I was in the Cardiff School of Art and Design, looking for Robert Pepperell, I had a good nosy and peeked into the studios, it looks like they do some interesting stuff down there. The pick-up there was relatively quick, even if there was a hairy moment in the lift.

After a spot of sushi, we went round to Poked Studio and picked up two of his pieces, the cloud’s revenge and March of Progress. Whilst I was there, I got to have a nice chat with Jon, met his partner and asked lots of questions about his work and how to work as a graphic artist/illustrator.

It was unfortunate that whilst I was trying to show Jon some of the photos from Dan Ponting (one of the artists we’ve had in the past) when the broken image on Dan’s website came up, just as his partner walked in. She must have thought I was showing him some strange stuff.

I’m really thankful that they gave me so much time… I hope I didn’t get in the way too much.

Robert Pepperell is Meirion Alan Ginsberg’s choice and
Poked Studio is Sally Kwong’s choice for the christmas bocs nadolig exhibition.
